Amanda Hilburn wife of Daniel Hilburn called me a month or so ago about a project for her company. I’m not sure of her title but Amanda is the eastern NC regional director of United Bank and covers from Virginia to SC. She was having a regional meeting of all of her branch managers in New Bern and wanted to have a project for her folks to work on. She wanted to do something for Shriners Children’s Greenville. I made a few phone calls as to what the hospital could use. The Child Life specialist said that many times kids come to the hospital for surgery and don’t realize how uncomfortable they may be on the ride home, especially for those kids that travel a long distance. They said that many times something as simple as a pillow will help make the child more comfortable. So, Amanda and her team assembled 100 goodie bags complete with a neck pillow, a disposable pillow, and various other items that would be useful for a child for a long car ride such as coloring books, crayons, etc. Her company provided the funding and she and her team provided the labor to put these together. These will be delivered to our Greenville facility to be distributed to kids in need of a little comfort.
