George L. Raecher was born on January 28, 1948 in Salamanca, NY to George H. & Mary Raecher.  He is the second born of four children.  He graduated from high school in 1966 and a year later enlisted in the United States Air Force.  He received his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice while in the military.  He retired from the USAF in January 1988 after serving over 20 years and returned to Wayne County, his wife’s home.  In August 1988 he was hired by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department.  He progressed there and worked 18 years as a criminal investigator.  He was promoted to the rank of Major and in 2008 retired as the Chief of Investigations, in charge of Criminal Investigations, the Drug Squad, and the School Resource Officers.  In October 2008, he was hired by the Wayne County ABC Board as the Chief of ABC Law Enforcement, where he remained until 2013 retiring with 46 years in law enforcement.  He is a member of the North Carolina Homicide Investigators Association, and has served on several civic boards and church committees.

 

George’s Masonic journey began in 1982 while stationed at Malmstrom AFB, Great Falls, Montana at Delta Lodge #128.  He was raised to the sublimed degree of a Master Mason in October 1982.  He was the Master of Goldsboro Lodge #634 in 2015 and again in 2017.  In January 1998, he joined Sudan Shriners and the Wayne Shrine Club. He was the club President in 2001, 2002, and 2007.  He joined the Sudan Mini Rigs in 2000 and served as the Captain in 2008 and 2009.  He served on Board of Directors for 14 years and was Chairman of the Fish Fry for 16 years.  He has served as the Sudan Director of Public Relations since 2012 with the exception of 2016.  He was elected Sudan Recorder in 2014.  In October 2016, he was elected to the New Bern Court Royal Order of Jesters #145. 

 

George is married to the former Janice Moore of Seven Springs.  They have three married daughters and six grandchildren.  George is very active the community and church.  George is proud and honored to have been elected as only the eleventh Sudan Recorder in 100 years.  He vows to continue to work hard for this great fraternity and the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
