The Steel Drum Band was formed in 1977 by some members of the Columbus County Shrine Club who were looking for a way to participate in Shrine Ceremonials and put the Shrine in the public eye in their area. They currently have 13 active members who participate in 8 to 10 civic parades and 4 shrine parades each year. Also they were privileged to play in the North Carolina Governor’s Inaugural Parade in 2009 which was a first for their unit. We play so that kids may walk!
