SoulShine Band

Wilmington’s SoulShine traces its origins back to Hoggard High School where the members, all Port City natives, were classmates. Davie Waggett (vocals and percussion), Donald Smith (drums) and Rick McDuffie (guitar) were all members of the award-winning Grade VI Symphonic Band at Hoggard. Donald and Davie were simultaneously traveling a parallel rock and roll track with Rick Howell (bass) in bands like Night Drive, Croatan and Lush, while Rick McDuffie was covering the high-society gigs with Pendulum and The Ethics. Davie did a stint on drums with Nantucket and Rick Howell played for a time with a later version of The Grass Roots. College, career and child-rearing kept the boys from pursuing full time music careers, but they found time to keep playing and honing their music skills through the years. Along the way they have shared the stage, individually, with The Charlie Daniels Band, Exile, Goose Creek Symphony and The Kentucky Headhunters, among others. These good friends reunited in 2013, along with keyboardist (and fellow Hoggard alum) Tony Greer, to form SoulShine.

SoulShine is made up of five guys who are true “soul brothers”- they love each other, their audiences, and they're excited about what they do! Whether you love soul, beach, Motown, classic rock or “all of the above”, SoulShine can deliver it, with a punch!
