Leadership Seminar

A Great Sharing of Knowledge

Of the fifty plus participants in the Sudan Club and Unit Leadership Seminar, it  was nearly impossible for anyone to leave without learning something of benefit.  Hosted at the Rocky Mount Shrine Club, the seminar offered much information and enthusiastic sharing of the passion for being a Sudan Shriners.

After a welcome by Potentate Bruce Bulluck, Nobles Cale Grady and Edwin 'Teeny' Jones began an afternoon of vital information sharing with Imperial and Sudan governing regulations.

Director of Units Frank Long relayed important rules and regulations regarding units, parade participation, and specific safety requirements to protect all unit members as well as parade watchers from harm. Noble Long shared the importance of the the 3 -"C's", communication, co-operation and commitment.  All very important in the successful operation of a club or unit.

Following the insightful information shared by Noble Long, the group was further focused on the presentation by insurance representative Dennis Leoni, VP of Robinson and Stith Insurance, who shared much valuable and hopefully litigation saving requirements for clubs and particularly units to follow.

The net impact of both presentations was that without proper planning and attention to specific details, there are many opportunities for clubs and units to face serious financial woes regarding accidents that may cause personal and property damage that could have been avoided.     more

Message from the Potentate

Throw out the initial room debacle that the Hilton greeted us with and the weekend was near perfect. Yes, not a good start. The Hilton sold 62 of our rooms to the general public leaving Sharon Jones, our office manager, with a nightmare! The nightmare was a recurring one as it went on for a week or more. Promise after promise was broken and we received nothing but bad information. In the end we were 50 plus rooms short. The Hilton claims a “computer glitch was the cause”. Little did they know that I have 20 plus years experience as a computer programmer.  more

Just 'One' Child

Can Make a Difference

One child’s commitment often sparks others and such was the case during the installation ceremony at the Bladen County Shrine Club.  It was to be a typical officer installation performed by Sudan High Priest & Prophet Rick Jackson for the incoming 2011 officers.  But before the gavel was passed from outgoing President John Creech to incoming President Paul Johnson, Noble Creech recognized Elizabethtown Primary School student Shelby Smith for comments.      more

Mrs. Traveler with Pender County Shrine Club President Bill Sammons

A Labor of Love for Shriners

Hospitals for Children

Many hours of donated work leads to a labor of love being complete by Pender County’s Shayna Traveler.  After completing fifty-three blankets, the Pender County Shrine Club received them from Mrs. Traveler to be delivered to the Shriners Hospitals for Children as one more layer of

comfort for the patients.

Crediting the Shriners Hospitals for saving her son’s life after burns received, Mrs. Traveler used her knitting, crocheting and sewing talents to produce the assorted blankets.

Her son, Parish is now 40 years of age and she has said that you would never know that he was ever burned.  She shared that his treatment was excellent and she knew that the care received at Shriners Hospitals saved his life.

Mrs. Traveler was thanked for her efforts by members of the Pender club when she presented the blankets to Nobles Bill Sammons and Ray Smith, with a delivery date to the hospital to be determined.

Another example of the difference ‘one’ person can make in bringing smiles to our Shriners Hospitals patients and families.
