Your Representatives were among the 771 Iowa Corporation (Fraternity) and 510 Colorado Corporation (Shriners Hospitals for Children) Representatives meeting in Denver , CO July 3 – 7, 2011 to conduct the bus- iness of our fraternity and philanthropy. There were a total of 44 Items on the Call to be discussed and voted on. Of these 44 Items, 14 were withdrawn by the proposers, 10 failed, and 20 passed. Many of these Items involved Temple jurisdictional lines, changes in Temple addresses, and general “housekeeping” updates. The following is a recap of the Items that held a great significance. ITEM # 6 – Electioneering: “A candidate for an elected office in a Shrine temple may print, publish, and circulate during the year he is seeking the elected office, a resume` consisting of his educational background, his vocational history, and his Masonic and Shrine record. Except as provided in the prior sentence,” the printing, publication, circulating or distribution of resolutions, letters, telegrams, tickets, email or other devises, by “a unit, club,” Noble, “or group of Nobles,” suggesting, recommending, opposing, or containing the names of proposed candidates for office in the temple is prohibited. ITEM # 13 – Initiation Fees: The adoption of this amendment permits every temple to establish its own initiation fee, and the Recorder is- required to remit $2.50 from the general budget to Shriners International for the purchase of a diploma for each new initiate. ITEMS # 32 & # 33 – New Temples: A Charter is issued to Emirat Shriners, Heidelberg , Germany , and a request for another new Temple in the Philippines , Agila Shriners in Mindanao was approved.
ITEMS # 36 & # 41– The passage of these Articles mean that the Articles of the Colorado Corporation are amended to permit the Hospitals to collect coinsurance and deductible amounts and other obligations applicable to private insurance coverage or government payments from the patients, their parents or guardians. (Note: This change is necessary for our Hospitals to be able to collect Third Party Pay. It went on record that the Imperial Council Representatives understand that collection of these amounts will not be pursued.) ITEMS # 14 & # 15 – These Items involved allowing non-Shriners to participate in Shrine or Civic parades with a Shrine Unit. Facing a strong opposition, THESE ITEMS WERE WITHDRAWN by their proposers. (Reminder to all Units: non-Shriners may not participate in Shrine or Civic parades. Shrine emblems, apparel, or lettering on uniforms, parade equipment, or trailers are indication that the participating unit is a Shrine Unit regardless of the type of parade. Nobles, these are only a few of the Items covered, but they are the most important. Your Representatives hold their obligation to represent you at the Session as a highly important commitment, and your confidence in us is an honor. The complete minutes of the Imperial Session will be available in the near future, but if you need any further information or clarification in the meantime, please do not hesitate to email me. Fraternally yours, Brack Wilson Past Potentate Imperial Representative Potentate's Cruise for 2012 Announced A joint "Potentate's Cruise" has been announced for April 28 thru May 4th, 2012.
