Johnston County Shriners 'Stoop'

to Help A Patient in Need            submitted by Kevin Chayer

“The Johnston County Shrine Club assisted one of our hospital patients recently.  'Hunter' was approved for a motorized wheel chair but needed an access ramp built before he could get it. John Quattlebaum Marshburn to the rescue! With his "it's all... for the children" attitude he spearheaded this successful event. He was joined by John Westbrook, Tony Andreola, Grover Dees, Randy Cox, Steve Sasser (who spent some of his birthday lending a hand) and Kevin Chayer. It was fun, but more than that it was a joyful time seeing how Hunter loved his new ramp.”

Rainbow Girls Involved In

Shriners Hospitals Project

Leadership, confidence and citizenship, attributes that mean so much to a young lady and hopes for a

bright future.  Attributes that are so sorely missed in much of today's society. But the International Order of the Rainbow Girls are alive and active in New Hanover County where the Wilmington Assembly #29 busily collected slippers to donate to the patients at the Greenville Shriners Hospital for Children.

The Assembly collected approximately 100 pairs of slippers as a service project and also made lots of IV

bags!  The Assembly members presented the slippers and IV bags to Sudan Trustee Noble Randy Smith at a recent Rainbow meeting.  The slippers have been sent to the hospital with good wishes for speedy

recovery for the patients who will wear them.

Columbus County Shrine

Club Hosts Successful

Golf Tournament

The Columbus County Shrine Club’s first golf tournament in many years is history and with
much humble thanks and appreciation, it was a great success.   As previously reported, golf tournaments

were a fundraiser in years past, but the club moved away to other ideas in the last 10 years.
June 3rd was a great day for a golf tournament with the temps warm enough to generate an opportunity

to seek hydration, but not so hot as to be unbearable.   With 20 teams registered before the 1 pm shotgun

start, there was plenty of Shrine help to get the tournament underway in addition to the large number of

Shriners who played on teams. Two Shrine clubs fielded teams with a team from Bladen County Shrine

Club and also a team from the Havelock Shrine Club.
The tournament’s big prize was a chance to win the vehicle of your choice valued at up to $25,000

provided by Wilson Auto Sales, LLC of Hallsboro, NC, for a hole-in-one on #18. Additional prizes were

also available on 2 other par 3’s for a hole-in-one, free air fare to any destination in the continental US

and a Sharp LCD wide screen TV.
Prizes valued at $75 were awarded for each winning team member for each of 2 flights and
$50 for second place winners. Prizes were also awarded for longest drive and closest to the pin
on designated holes. Mulligans were sold to team members at $5 each, bought in pairs at $10 for a

mulligan front and back nine, with a raffle ticket entering the member into a drawing for more prizes

after the tournament.
Over $1200 in prizes was awarded to the winners collectively and in addition all were
treated to an opportunity to participate in a 50/50 drawing after the tournament which netted the
winner $300+.
Golfers and Shriners alike were treated to a grand feast of a pig pickin’ with all of the trimmings
to culminate the day with plenty of food. In the words of Noble President Buffkin, “It was a great opportunity

to get the Shrine Club members together for fun and fellowship and raise money for our fundraiser at the

same time.”
A long day for some, a costly day for others, a satisfying day for all!
